Ignite FAQ

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Ignite program. If you have a question that is not answered below or in this year’s Ignite 2024 Information Guide, please reach out to us at leadserve@utk.edu or call us at 865-974-1039.

No, all students are required to attend certain events as a part of Vol 104: Big Orange Welcome in the fall semester. Ignite is an optional experience that allows you to enhance your UT experience and leadership style, ease your transition into the university, and meet other incoming students before classes start!

Of course! Feel free to go to as many sessions as you’d like. You are responsible for the program fee for each session you register for.

Payment is required at the time of registration for an Ignite session. The cost of attending each program is as follows:

  • Ignite: Evolve – $175
  • Ignite: 865 or Ignite: Summit – $225
  • Ignite: Outdoors – $300

Ignite: 865 (On Campus): Ignite: 865 Program Check-In starts at 10 am on the first day of the session. These sessions end around noon on the last day of the program.

  • Note: Housing check-in for sessions in June and July typically occurs at 9 a.m. on the first day of the program. For sessions offered in August, housing check-in takes place the day before.

Ignite: Summit (Off Campus): Students will leave campus to head to the program site at 8 am on the first day of the session will return to campus at 12:30 pm on the last day of the session.

  • Note: Housing check-in is different than program check-in and usually takes place the day before program check-in. Please check your housing move-in appointment and ensure it’s prior to the program check-in.

Ignite: Evolve (On Campus): Check-in starts at 9 am on Friday, January 17, 2025. The session will conclude at approximately 9 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Yes. The deadline to switch any Ignite session is two weeks before the first day of the program. Please email your full name, UTK Student ID number, the session you’re currently registered for, and the session you want to switch into to leadserve@utk.edu. You will need to pay a $25 session switch fee, which you can access via the registration form.

Unfortunately, no. Due to the nature of the Ignite program and the necessity for early planning and purchasing of supplies, registration fees for cancellations are non-refundable after the following dates:

  • January 1 for January Ignite programs
  • May 1 for June & July Ignite Programs
  • July 1 for August Ignite Programs
  • No refunds will be issued for Ignite: Outdoors registration cancellations 

Refunds will only be issued for medical or family emergencies after the dates above. Documentation must be submitted to leadserve@utk.edu for a refund to be considered.

If you need to cancel your registration, please email us prior to the start date of the session with your full name, UTK Student ID number, and the session(s) you’re registered to attend. Note that refunds will not be provided unless the medical/family emergency documentation is submitted and approved.

Yes. We can provide rides from Tyson McGhee Airport and the Knoxville Greyhound Bus Station, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. To request a ride please email leadserve@utk.edu, your full name, the Ignite session that you’re registered for, pick-up/drop-off location, arrival date and time, and departure date and time.

If you’re participating in the on-campus or off-campus experience in August, yes! More information will be provided for participants once the move-in schedule is finalized.

You are expected to remain with the program during its entirety, so please do NOT schedule interviews, tests, or advising meetings during the program. Advising appointments can be made after the Ignite program has concluded.

If you are interested in attending Ignite AND participating in Panhellenic Recruitment, please select an Ignite session that is not in August. All August sessions conflict with the Pan recruitment schedule. Please visit this link to learn more about the Office of Sorority & Fraternity Life and the Panhellenic Council.

January On-Campus Experience: Students will need a 2024-2025 UT parking pass to park on campus during Ignite: Evolve. You can purchase a permit by visiting UT Parking Services. If you do not wish to purchase a permit, there is street parking on the edges of campus that can be easily accessed.

Ignite: Outdoors, or June & July On-Campus Experiences: Two weeks prior to your program, you’ll receive directions for parking locations in your UTK email. We will issue a parking pass upon your check-in/arrival.

August Experiences: You’ll need a 2024-25 UT parking pass to park on campus during Ignite. You can purchase a permit by visiting UT Parking Services. If you do not wish to purchase a permit, there is street parking on the edges of campus that can be easily accessed.

Yes. We work closely with campus dining, caterers, and off-site facilities to ensure options for students with dietary restrictions and food allergies. Please be sure to indicate your dietary restrictions on your registration form. If dietary restrictions arise after registering, you can contact us at leadserve@utk.edu.
