Emerging Leaders Course

Emerging Leaders (EL) is a 3-credit-hour course taught as an elective in the Leadership Studies Minor. EL is offered every year for sophomores interested in studying leaders, leadership theories, and the application of leadership in a variety of situations. The purpose of the course is to cultivate emotionally intelligent leaders who will create positive social change on campus.

The course includes an off-campus leadership experience in which students travel to another city to visit colleges and universities to learn about varying leadership styles and challenges students face on those campuses. Previous trips have included visits to Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, North Carolina; Morehouse College and Emory University in Atlanta; American University and Howard University in Washington, DC; Louisiana State University and Southern University & A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Florida State University and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida; and Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, among others.
