Public Health
December 12-16, 2021
East Tennessee
Cost: $100
Trip Leaders: Taylor Dempsey and Steve Mahometano
Public health has been a major topic of focus in the past year due to the SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. This trip will focus on these factors by analyzing how wealth and race drive public health inequities in Knoxville, TN through a week of service learning. We will specifically examine how gentrification, environmental racism, and food accessibility directly impact one’s access to medical care and public health services. We will also volunteer with local organizations that confront these issues and discuss how to address these problems in our greater community and daily lives.
