Ignite FAQ

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Ignite program. If you have a question that is not answered below or in the 2019 Participant Information Book, feel free to email us at leadserve@utk.edu or call us at 865-974-1039.

 

Does Ignite take the place of orientation?

No, all students are required to attend summer orientation. Ignite is an optional experience that allows you to enhance your UT knowledge, leadership styles, serve, and meet new Vols before class starts!

 

Can I participate in more than one Ignite program?

Of course! Feel free to go to as many sessions as you’d like.

 

How much does Ignite cost?

Ignite Outdoors, Serves, Knox, and Leadership Summit cost $200 each.

 

Do I have to pay the program fee when I register?

No. Your MyUTK account will be billed on August 1st, along with your tuition and fees through the university.

 

I’ve registered for an Ignite session, but I’d like to switch to another session. Can I do that?

Yes. The deadline to switch sessions is June 1, 2019. Please email your full name, UTK Student ID number, the session you’re currently registered for, and the session you want to switch into to leadserve@utk.edu.

 

I need to cancel my Ignite registration. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, after June 1st, no. Due to the nature of the Ignite program and the necessity for early planning and purchasing of supplies, no refunds are able to be given after June 1. If you have a medical or family emergency, documentation will need to be submitted to leadserve@utk.edu for a refund to be considered. If you need to cancel your registration, please email us your full name, UTK Student ID number, and the session you’re currently registered for.

 

I’m flying/taking a bus into Knoxville, do you provide transportation from the airport?

Yes! We provide shuttle service from Tyson McGhee Airport and Greyhound Bus Station, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. To request a shuttle, email leadserve@utk.edu your full name, Ignite session that you’re registered for, pick-up/drop-off location, arrival date and time, and departure date and time.

 

Do I get to move into my residence hall early?

If you’re participating in Serves or Leadership Summit (only the August session), yes! For Serves, you’ll be able to move in Monday, August 12, 2019. For Leadership Summit, you’ll be able to move in on Thursday, August 15, 2019. Please note that you cannot move in prior to Monday, August 12th due to UT Housing staff training.

 

Can I leave the program to go to an interview/appointment/etc?

You are expected to remain with the program during its entirety, so please do NOT schedule interviews, tests, or advising meetings during the program. Advising appointments can be made after the Ignite program has concluded.

 

If I’m participating in Sorority or Fraternity Recruitment, can I still go to Ignite Serves?

Yes! You’ll be dismissed for free time on Wednesday, August 14th from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. to attend Recruitment Orientation and will return to Ignite afterward for evening activities. On Thursday, August 15th, Serves will conclude at 11:00 a.m. and Recruitment activities do not begin until 1:00 p.m.

 

Where should I park during my Ignite session?

Leadership Summit (July session), Outdoors, or Knox: Two weeks prior to your program, you’ll receive an email to your UTK email with a parking pass and parking location directions.

Serves & August Leadership Summit: You’ll need a UT parking pass to park on campus during Ignite Serves and August Leadership Summit. You can purchase a permit by visiting UT Parking Services. If you do not wish to purchase a permit, there is street parking on the edges of campus that can be easily accessed.
