VOLServe Monthly Service Series

Join us for a VOLServe!

The Jones Center for Leadership and Service sponsors monthly service opportunities each semester provided in partnership with various community agencies. VOLServe events give students the chance to network and interact with other students and community members while engaging in meaningful service and addressing community needs. VOLServe events are led by a Jones Center Ambassador who engages the participants in a meaningful reflection to wrap up the afternoon. Transportation is provided to and from campus.

Spring 2024 VOLServe Dates:

Frequently Asked Questions

We will depart from the Jones Center for Leadership & Service, located in the Student Union, Suite 193 (across from the Auditorium). Please try to arrive at least 5 minutes before the start time.

We’ve got it covered! All students will be transported to their service site by van or bus. Students participating in a VOLServe event are required to take the provided transportation.

Please review the registration details in ServeUTK to see if the community partner has shared details about what to wear or bring and any other details about the service you will be doing.

Regardless of where you are serving, we recommend wearing close-toed shoes and long pants to a service event. You may want to wear clothing that can get wet or dirty, depending on the event. Please check the weather before you arrive and dress accordingly. In effort to practice sustainability, bring a reusable water bottle to use. We recommend filling it up before departing campus.

Unfortunately, due to liability concerns we are unable to allow students to drive themselves to a service site. Students who sign up and do not show up will be charged a $10 fee. Our community partners have generously agreed to host us, and we want to be sure to give accurate volunteer numbers. Students should plan to stay for the entire time listed with their registration in ServeUTK. For more information, please view our cancellation/no-show hold policy.

Yes! All students who register for and attend a VOLServe event will receive service hours in ServeUTK. Service hours are automatically tracked through your registration in ServeUTK by the Jones Center, so you will not need to add your own service hours for these events.

All registered volunteers will have impacts added and verified for you after checking in with the JCLS staff on the day of the event. You should not create a new impact for a VOLServe event All impacts that are created by students will be duplicates and will be disputed. If for some reason you don’t see an impact created for you for this event, reach out to leadserve@utk.edu for assistance.

If you sign up for a service slot and you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration in ServeUTK at least 48 hours (two days) prior to your service day. Cancellations made after this date will not be accepted and students will be charged a $10 program fee. Our community partners have generously agreed to host us, and we want to be sure to give them an accurate number of volunteers. For more information, please our cancellation/no-show hold policy.

Serving is fun with friends! Any UTK students can register for a VOLServe in ServeUTK. Spots are limited. Please check the registration status to see if any spots are available or add your name to the event waitlist if registration is full. Unfortunately, we are only able to accommodate those with a UT NetID for a service event.

VOLServes will continue rain or shine unless the community partner requests to cancel the event or unless there is lightning. If a VOLServe is canceled, registered students will receive an email. Please check the weather before you arrive and dress accordingly.
